With the sun finally starting to shine, spring marks the time when many homeowners look to spruce up their properties. However, it appears that many people are focusing on smaller DIY jobs when it comes to home improvements, rather than prioritising key updates which could bring bigger benefits.

New research from Everest Home Improvements has revealed that over a third of Brits have windows and driveways that are in disrepair, while one in five are ‘actively avoiding’ improving their kitchens and bathrooms. As well as this, 50% of Brits have roofs that are falling apart. 

Fear of high costs (40%) and disruption (25%) were sited as the most common reasons for people not undertaking the necessary repair work.

The research also found that 18% of people would like to update their windows but have never got round to doing it, even though 62% felt that it would help to improve their home’s overall energy efficiency.  

This represents a significant opportunity for fabricators and installers to promote the very real security and thermal performance benefits of replacement windows and doors throughout the home, together with the positive aesthetic impact a new installation brings.

A further recent study by Zopa indicated that updating a home’s exterior can create a 75% return on investment. Therefore, by avoiding key updates to windows and doors, homeowners could be negatively affecting the value of their homes.

Fabricators and installers can look to take advantage of the increase in home improvements at this time of year by promoting the benefits of replacement doors and windows and encouraging people to consider their home’s exterior. This also provides the opportunity to proactively offer extra precautionary measures, up-selling security features and promoting the importance of protecting their home and assets.
